Staged as a major public intervention at the Taipei Train Station and funded by a non-profit organization, Treasure Island is a powerful video and mixed-media installation confronting the crisis of human trafficking. The project shatters the "fairy tale" illusion of Taiwan as an island of easy fortune for migrating Southeast Asian women, revealing the predatory exploitation many face instead. By pairing an evocative video narrative with boxes and containers filled with victims' actual clothing, letters, and handwriting, Treasure Island forces a bustling public crowd to pause and intimately experience the claustrophobia, struggle, and resilient humanity of those trapped behind closed doors.
