Inheritance #10
Taiwanese Women 1915
Charlene Shih
2026

Based on an archival photograph from 1915, this work captures two women in traditional dress during the early Japanese colonial period in Taiwan. The composition, featuring classical architecture and a central bonsai, highlights the quiet dignity and cultural intersection of the era. By translating a century-old historical image into a contemporary medium, the artist explores themes of identity, heritage, and the preservation of history through a personal lens.
